A Founder's Story • Meet Alex Montalenti

Picture this:

It’s the year 1999, Saturday afternoon... The sun is beaming, I'm fresh out of college and ready to hit the beach with friends. As I place my hand on the door to leave, my mom taps my shoulder and says “Wait, before you go! I need you to help me with this computer!” I groan, but she’s still looking at me with expectant eyes and her hand on her hips. “Ok, mom... what do you need?” She holds a sheet of paper with photos of a home and details about it. “I need this to be on the computer, but I’m not good with those machines.”

The beginning of the 21st century was a turning point for real estate, the internet disrupted the industry and hundreds of realtors saw themselves struggling with business development. Where the masses saw a problem, I saw a new field of opportunity that today helps thousands of real estate professionals. As I sit down at my desk, I instantly realize that this one request… Is the beginning of something big, and I NEED to be a part of it. Thanks to my mom… I was in the thick of it from the very beginning.

Today I am a leading technology innovator, serial entrepreneur, coach to realtors and expert in brand awareness. But how did I get here? Truth be told, the beginning wasn’t pretty. In fact, my entire outlook on my customers and employees was darn right resentful. My customers, I claimed, were difficult, lazy and ungrateful. To add to my disillusionment, my employees were unmotivated and unengaged. My frustrations began to monopolize most of my time and energy, and nothing was looking promising. The company and I alike were in a rut, and at a stalemate.

An object in motion stays in motion unless an external force acts upon it. The trajectory of my business was plummeting to ruin until I had a conversation that redirected where things were headed. In that conversation I realized that my own view and attitude toward my team were the root cause behind my dissatisfaction. I shed tears when I really saw how much I was sabotaging my own company and the customers we depended on. The thought of building a company that might end in ruin due to my utter lack of gratitude was too much to bear. I stopped leading with a defensive mentality and instead decided to become an advocate for my customers. I began actively listening to my team, and we built up a strong foundation of trust, working, supporting, communicating and scaling the multi-million dollar company we are proud of.

Reconfiguring the company and rekindling my dedication to customers and employees helped us to become the number 1 digital marketing resource for agents nationwide. Thanks to our honest customers that provide feedback, we turn “problems” into solutions and into success stories. We have a profound understanding of agents and know what tools and guidance is necessary for their success.

Crazily enough this all started by trying to get my mom get real estate leads and boost her digital identity. When I hit the fork in the road my partners helped guide me and ultimately choose the path that led to our success instead of our ruin. Five years ago, I was unsure about the direction this company was going to take. Today more than ever, I know in my heart that my mission to help all of you is the right one, and I am so excited for the next five years to come.

Side note on being the "founder" I am actually the co-founder of Real Grader. My partner Daniel Radu is both a long-time friend and one of the kindest men I know. When we started the company, we decided I should be the front man. Dan is equally devoted to the vision, and makes all kinds of magic happen; behind the scenes. Without him, none of this would have been possible.
